Buck Island is 30-45 minutes away from our very own St.Croix. the reason why buck island is under national park service is because of the reefs. The reefs are the protectors of Buck Island and its very important to the National Park Service. The highest point on buck island is 328 feet. Its 6,000 feet long and 2,500 feet wide. President Kennedy extended the island in 2001 because people would come and fish by the reefs. They then extended the reef again, a couple years later. When we visited buck island, we hiked half the island becaude time was limited. After the hike, we went into the beautiful blue waters and had fun.
We are the first stewards and ambassadors of a teen program started by the St.Croix National Park Service and Inner Changes. We all currently attending the St.Croix Educational Complex from tenth to twelfth grade. The purpose of our program is to learn the rich history of St.Croix and share it with others. Our knowledge goes back to the arrival of the enslaved people and even further back to the indians of the island. This program allowed us to experience the history of our island at first hand.
