This was one of Peter von Scholten schools that was created on St.Croix. It's named after Arthur Abel because he is one of the four generation of great masonry work and one of his ancestors built this building. He was also Mr.Public Works & he maintained the building that still stands in Frederiksted today. This building was an old danish school and then converted into a military hospital. In the 19th century it was then transformed back in to a school in accordance to Peter von Scholten directive from King Frederick VI to provide universal, compulsory education. In 1989, Hurricane Hugo destroyed the building but then was restored in April of 2009.
We are the first stewards and ambassadors of a teen program started by the St.Croix National Park Service and Inner Changes. We all currently attending the St.Croix Educational Complex from tenth to twelfth grade. The purpose of our program is to learn the rich history of St.Croix and share it with others. Our knowledge goes back to the arrival of the enslaved people and even further back to the indians of the island. This program allowed us to experience the history of our island at first hand.
